5. Adding & Tagging Products

Next: (6) Modifying & Searching Approved Content

In order to tag products in your user generated content, you need to update your StoryBox account with your product inventory list. You can do this in one of four ways:

  1. CSV Upload - to upload all of your products at once in a single file, you can add your products to our template CSV file, and then upload them as a batch.
  2. Add Products Individually - if you'd prefer, you can add products one at a time. This is more useful for minor additions after completing a CSV upload, but if you have only a few products this would work on its own instead
  3. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) - if you frequently add or remove products from your inventory, it would be best to consider setting up an FTP process. Although this takes a bit longer to setup, once it is in place your product inventory will automatically synch with StoryBox every day. As you add or remove products in your system, StoryBox will update as well without any further action from you.
  4. Shopify or DemandWare Cartridge - if you are using Shopify or DemandWare, you can install our StoryBox cartridge, which will include your product inventory automatically

An overview of each of these four methods is covered below.

Method 1 - CSV Upload

To upload all products at once:

  1. Click on "Products" in the lefthand navigation
  2. Click on the "Download CSV" button at the top of the page
  3. Open the CSV File. You will see 8 different categories, but only 4 of them are essential:
    1. Product ID (Required) - this is how our system identifies your product, so the Product ID needs to be a unique identifier. For those of you wishing to add a Display Module to your Product Detail Page, the Product ID will most likely also be used in the PDP URL and is how our system knows to display ONLY products related to that Product ID in the Display Module
    2. Product Title (Recommended) - when a customer clicks on a content tile in your Display Module, a lightbox will open showing the image as well as the product shown in the image (if you have tagged the content with a product). Above the product will be shown the name of the product. In order to show that product name, this field needs to have been completed.
    3. Product Image (Recommended) - similarly, in the content lightbox, an image of the product will be shown if you have tagged the content with a product. in order to do this, we need to have an image of the product.
    4. Store URL (Required) - similarly, in the content lightbox, if a customer clicks on the product tagged in the content, it will take them to the Product Detail Page where they can purchase this item. In order to do this, we need to know the URL for that product detail page.
    5. Buy Button URL (optional) - if you would like to have the Buy Button shown in the lightbox take the customer to a different page than the product detail page, you can add a second URL here. This is only relevant to a very few number of our clients, so for most companies this will be left blank.
    6. Price (optional) - if you would like to display the price of the product in the lightbox, you can complete this optional field. You can also change the currency (USD, Euro, etc) in the Settings section
    7. Categories (optional) - only a few of our clients use this functionality. This will allow you to designate a category for each product. This would allow you to create a Display Module that shows all content related to an overall product category (example: Shoes, T-Shirts, Laptop Cases, etc). Most companies leave this field blank.
    8. Parent Product ID (optional) - similar to categories, most of our clients leave this field blank. This is useful if you would like to create a product heirarchery. For example, some clients will customize their Display Module so that if an image of a product is not available, an image of the parent product would be display instead. For example, they would configure a Display Module to show a Blue Superhero T-Shirt if that is available; if it is not, then it would just display any T-Shirt instead.
  4. Add your new products to this downloaded CSV file
  5. Click on "Upload Product CSV"

Method 2 - Add Products Individually
1. Click on "Products" in the lefthand navigation
2. Click on the blue "Add Product" button at the top of the page
3. Complete the required fields and click "Update"

Method 3 - FTP

To add products in a way where our product inventory will always by in synch with yours (ie. when you remove or add a product, our system will automatically update as well) you can use our FTP process. In order to use our FTP process, please contact our support center and we will help you set this up. You can email support@getstorybox.com, or you can click on the HELP button in the bottom right of your dashboard

Method 4 - Shopify or DemandWare Cartridge

  1. Click on Display
  2. For any Display Module, click on Get Code
  3. Scroll to the very bottom of the page and click on either Shopify or DemandWare and follow all instructions

This article covers how to tag content with the related product shown in each image or video. To setup products in your account, please read our article on Setting up Products.

By adding a Product Tag in your StoryBox dashboard, you can associate a piece of content with a particular product.

When a user clicks on any content on your site in a StoryBox Display Module, they will see a lightbox with that piece of content. If the content has been tagged, it will show the product in the bottom right, along with product information and an option to purchase this product.

Product tags can be added on the Search and Content pages. They can be added to the content tile, or in the expanded content tile (when you click on a content tile).

To add a product tag, simply type the product name in the associated search box. Your search will update as you type. Click enter or click on the desired product and the tag will be added.

You can add multiple tags for each piece of content.

Once you have added a tag to a piece of content, it will show (1) in hover over the content tile, and (2) in the expansion you see when you click on a content tile.

Tags can be removed at any time by clicking on the white "X"

Additional information about tagging is displayed in the "?" icon on the page. Tags are color coded to provide more information about the type of tag.
